Albert ‘Swede' A. Unger

OBERLIN -- Albert "Swede" A. Unger, 93, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2007) at Decatur Community Hospital.

He was born Dec. 14, 1913, in Decatur County, to Andrew and Susanna (Kromberger) Unger. He grew up on a farm in Logan Township in Decatur County and attended District 88 rural school.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Oct. 5, 1958, he married Velma (Fleming) Peters in Oberlin. They lived in the Oberlin community and worked as a farmer and in maintenance at Decatur County Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Susanna (Kromberger) Unger; wife, Velma (Fleming) Peters in 1989; daughter, Patricia Wishon in 1992; brothers, Fred, Anton and Ernest; and sisters, Bertha Griffin and Edna Cochran.

Survivors include his son, Jon F. and Carol Peters of Portland, Ore.; son-in-law, Lloyd Wishon of Oberlin; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Chris Farmer officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Tuesday from 8 a.m., until time of service at the church.

Memorials may be given to Albert Unger Memorial Fund.

Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin is in charge of arrangements.
