Cambridge Trojans improve to 8-0

AMHERST -- The undefeated Cambridge Trojans football team swept Amherst 24-0 Thursday night at Amherst and will head to the Nebraska Class C-2 state playoffs next week.

Cambridge, ranked fourth in Class C-2 by the Omaha World Herald, improved to 8-0.

Lance Shifflet led the way with 135 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Jackson Johnson added 76 yards on the ground.

Also, Bo Cribelli hit Andrew Carpenter for a 29-yard touchdown pass. The Trojans outgained Amherst in total yards 312-53 and gave up minus 6 yards in the second half.

Shifflet also led the team with 8 tackles. Davin Doyle had 7 tackles. Taylor Lewis and Jesse Hamel each added 6 tackles.

“Defensively, we played a solid game,” said Cambridge coach Josh Graves. “The athletes played assignment football and took care of their responsibilities on every play. “Offensively, we were able to move the ball well most of the time, but had trouble with penalties and some mental mistakes in our blocking schemes.”

The first round of the Class C-2 state playoffs start next Thursday. Cambridge’s first-round opponent has not been announced yet.

“We look forward to the three-day break before getting geared back up for the playoffs,“ Graves said.

Southern Valley 16,

Gibbon 0

SOUTHERN VALLEY -- Southern Valley battled Gibbon Thursday, taking the game over the Buffs 16-0.

Zach Nielsen led the Eagles in the first quarter with a 8 yard pass to Michael Hoxmeier. Nielsen made the 2-point conversion.

Kellon Cummins added a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Drew Witte led the Eagles in rushing with 56 yards and Nielsen had 27.

Hoxmeier led in passing with 48 yards and Cummins had 36.

Arapahoe 40,

Medicine Valley 26

MEDICINE VALLEY -- Arapahoe toppled Medicine Valley 40-26 Thursday.

Arapahoe led the game in the first quarter, scoring with a 25 and 10 yard run by Justin Brooks.

Brooks led again in the second quarter with a 10 yard run.

Medicine Valley came back with a 2 yard run by Tanner Eberle and Trevor Wells passed 7 yards to Clint Bryant.

Brooks added TD runs 1 and 7 yards in the third quarter.

Anthony Chancellor added a 1-yard TD for the Raiders.

Brooks scored on two 1-yard runs in the final frame. Raider Ben Wolfe passed 8 yards to Clint Bryant.

Wolfe also had 113 yards in passing and Trevor Wells had 105. Both had 1 touchdown.

Bryant had 79 yards in receiving and Matt Zysset led with 92.

Brooks had 248 yards in rushing for the Warriors and Adam Snyder had 32 yards rushing and 87 passing.

North Platte

St. Pats 30,

Southwest 20

NORTH PLATTE -- Southwest fell short to North Platte St. Pats 30-20, Thursday.

North Platte led the game in the first half 17-0. Southwest fired back in the third with a 6 yard run from Tony Marquardt.

North Platte added another 49 yard run to keep the lead 24-6.

Jason Daffer led Southwest in the fourth with a 6-yard pass to Andrew Ruggles.

North Platte added a 31-yard run, before Marquardt scored on a 3 yard run to finish the game.

Marquardt led in rushing with 180 yards and Daffer passed for 61 yards. Ruggles had 21 yards in receiving and Adam Crocker had 25.
