Cambridge Trojans defeat Elm Creek Buffaloes 34-14

CAMBRIDGE -- The Cambridge Trohjans improved to 7-0 and won its last home game of the regular season 34-14 over Elm Creek Friday night.

Lance Shifflet led the team with 203 total yards with 4 touchdowns.

Shifflet caught a 60-yard pass from Bo Cribelli on the first play from scrimmage and then collected 143 rushing yards on 13 carries.

Jackson Johnson added 86 yards on 16 carries and scored 1 touchdown.

Cribelli threw for 212 yards on the night. Defensively, Taylor Lewis, with 13 tackles, and Davin Doyle, with 11 tackles, led the way.

"Offensively, we played a pretty solid game," said Cambridge coach Josh Graves.

"We made some errors, but did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage which allowed us to create some more diversity in our offense."

"Defensively, we were able to control their running game, but gave up a few big plays in the passing game so that is something we will need to improve on as the season continues."

"We have a short week, playing Amherst on Thursday, so we need to heal up and refocus in a hurry."

The Cambridge Trojans will play at Amherst on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Playoffs start the following week.

Leyton 56,

Wauneta-Palisade 30

WAUNETA-PALISADE -- Leyton improved to 7-0 Friday night, after downing Wauneta-Palisade 56-30.

The Broncos are now 5-2 and play Creek Valley this week.

The Broncos led the first quarter, but fell behind in the second, with Leyton leading the half 20-16.

The Broncos tried again in the third, but Leyton again overpowered them scoring 22 over their 14.

Leyton managed to score twice in the fourth and kept the Broncos from scoring, earning the win.

Chris Crowell scored 4 touchdowns for the Broncos with 3 rushing and 1 receiving. Cody Fanning led in tackles.

Dundy County-Stratton 62,

Creek Valley 24

BENKELMAN -- Dundy County-Stratton blasted Creek Valley 62-24 Friday. The Tigers are 4-3 going into the final games of the season.

Kyle Glidden led the Tigers with 23 carries for 99 yards and 3 TDs.

Steven Sander had 13 carries for 89 yards for 1 touchdown and Kendel Glidden was 4 for 4 with 1 td.

Phillip Matthews led in receiving along with Kyle and Sander. Sander led in punt returns.
