Oberlin runners 4th, 6th at NWKL meet

PHILLIPSBURG, Kan. -- Decatur Community cross country runners finished fourth and sixth in the Phillipsburg Invitational Thursday.

"Our teams are improving," said Oberlin Coach Dick Ahlberg. "Chris Larson is healthier and running better, Jeffrey Isbell had a good race today and Tamara Ketterl and Kayla Zodrow both had nice races.

"We are excited about hosting the NWKL meet next Saturday."

Both Ketterl and Zodrow medaled for the Red Devil girls. The girls team finished fourth.

Osborne took the girls division, Norton was third and Lakeside took third.

Hill City finished fifth. Ketterl took 11th place with a time of 18:17 and Zodrow rounded out the top 15 with 18:52.

Oberlin's boys were sixth with a team score of 126.

Andrew Richards led the team, finishing fifth with a time of 18:37.

Norton won the boys side, with Osborne following in second, Hill City in third and Trego fourth. Ellis ended the top five and Stockton followed Oberlin in seventh.

Jeffrey Isbell finished sixth for the Oberlin JV boys.

Gage Reichert followed in seventh, Jay Wessel was 14th and Andy Dempewolf was 15th.

The Northwest Kansas League championships begin at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 13) in Oberlin at the golf course.
