Sylvester D. Fuchuck of McCook, Neb.. died Thursday (Sept. 6, 2007), at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.  He was 76 years old.

Sy was born on Nov. 8, 1930, in Boston, Mass., to William and Helena (Kormanicky) Fuchuck.  He graduated from Everett High School, Everett, Mass., in 1948.  He continued his education at Suffolk University in Boston with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. 

Sy entered the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict.  He was honorably discharged in 1954.  On June 4, 1955, he married Florence Rita Rossi in Boston.  To this union four children were born.  They made their home in Boston where Sy was an accountant.  They moved to the McCook community in 1995 to be near family.

Sy was an avid sports fan especially of the Boston Red Sox, Denver Broncos and Colorado Avalanche.  He was an inspiration to his family and to everyone who came to know him throughout the course of his illness.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Helena Fuchuck; and one sister, Lillian.

Survivors include his wife, Florence of McCook; two sons, Bill Fuchuck and wife, Mary of McCook and Jim Fuchuck and wife, Jill, of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Linda Hansing of Engelwood, Colo., and Karen and husband, Dennis Arp, of Culbertson, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Jason Hansing and Laetitia, Stephen Hansing and wife, Leigh Ann, Brian Arp and wife, Erika, Jenny Arp, Ryan Fuchuck, Amanda Fuchuck, Daniel Arp, Nick Fuchuck and Dominick Fuchuck; and two great-grandchildren, Gianna Hansing and Tori Hansing.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be Monday until 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Friends may go online at to extend condolences.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, 2 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a military honor committal.

A reception will follow the burial at the Taste of Texas restaurant in McCook. Everyone is welcome to attend.
