ARAPAHOE?-- Vaughn Williams Dawson, 92, died Saturday (Sept. 1, 2007) at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

He was born May 26, 1915, to Walter and Lena (Roepke) Dawson in Gosper County. He grew up in the Turkey Creek neighborhood of Gosper County and attended school in Gosper County.

On Sept. 24, 1937, he married Mildred Hays at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe. They farmed and ranched north of Arapahoe on Turkey Creek for 45 years. They retired and moved to Arapahoe in February of 1980. During his retirement, he delivered cars for Faw Garage of Arapahoe and was a partner in High Plains Resources Oil and Gas Exploration Company in Hobart, Okla.

He served on the Edison Co-op and Farmers Home Administration Board of Directors and was a member of the St. Germanus Catholic Church of Arapahoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis McKenzie; brothers, Farrell and Lowell Dawson; and great-great-nephew, Alec Koller.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Arapahoe.

Funeral services were today at St. Germanus Catholic Church in Arapahoe, with the Rev. Robert Barnhill officiating. Interment will be in Arapahoe Cemetery.
