The Nebraska hunting and fishing company owned by McCook native Mike Roth, Matt Egglston of Broken Bow and Chris Fryzek of Burwell, partners of Challenge Concepts LLC, plans an "extreme outdoorsman challenge" to hunt five native species in three days in December.

The "Top Gun Team" will win $40,000.

Proceeds from the challenge will be donated to the "SANDS" program and the "NorthWind Wishes" nonprofit organizations. These organizations help disabled Nebraska hunters get out to hunt and terminally-ill children go on their dream outdoor adventures.

This is a hunting challenge being hosted for the first time in Nebraska, Roth said. "This is challenge of everyone's outdoor skills, not a trophy hunt for the biggest buck," he said.

Roth's "XTREME Outdoorsman Challenge" challenges two-person teams to hunt two of three upland species (pheasant, quail or prairie chicken/grouse); one of two waterfowl species (ducks or geese); one deer; and one turkey.

All bag limits and hunting rules of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will be strictly followed.

The teams will be assigned field judges who will register their bag limits and tally their scores.

The tournament consists of up to 200 two- person teams that hunt for three days and must kill five of the seven species bag limits. The event is timed, he said, and teams are awarded points for filling bag limits for both team members and points for time remaining after all bag limits have been legally taken and checked in.

Hunters can hunt in all their favorite places, public and/or private.

Teams will have three days -- Thursday, Dec. 6, Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8 -- to bag their birds and deer.

REGISTRATION

The event begins with registration on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at various locations across Nebraska.

Teams will be provided with Nebraska Game and Parks/Pheasant Forever CRP maps to register hunting locations. Written permission to hunt on private lands must be provided.

Hunters will also receive instructions for checking in their daily bag limits.

Hunters must be 19 years old or older, and have valid driver's and Nebraska hunting licenses and habitat stamps.

A complete list of rules is available at: huntandfish.org or outdoorsmanchallenge.com

All competitors will receive a complimentary sportsman kit with items from competition sponsors.

The second place team will be paid $12,000; third place, $8,000; and fourth and fifth places, $5,000 each.

The event ends in Kearney on Sunday, Dec. 9, with an awards banquet and celebration at the Ramada Inn.
