ATWOOD?-- Jarrold "Jerry" D. Bell, 95, died Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2007) at Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
He was born to Ora Gem and Nellie Mae (Dowling) Bell on Aug. 28, 1911, near Norcatur, Kan. He attended country school and Norcatur High School, graduating in 1929. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He taught school at Herndon Elementary. He also worked for Standard Oil, State Bank of Atwood and Williams Brothers. He was the owner of Bell Furniture Company for more than 20 years and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Fae; son, Dennis and wife, Adda; daughter, Prudence; daughter-in-law, Melinda Tucker Carlson and husband, Roger; two sisters, Grace Reeves and Helen New; three granddaughters; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Atwood, with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating.
Inurnment graveside services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at Atwood Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Sam Hubbard Post No. 46 of Atwood.
Memorials may be given in his name to Atwood Second Century Fund, Hospice Services Inc., or donors choice.
