OBERLIN -- LeRoy Hurst Schmidt, 83, died Monday (Aug. 27, 2007) at his home south of Achilles, Kan.
He was born Nov. 7, 1923, in Achilles, to Albert and Leota (Hurst) Schmidt. He grew up on a farm in the Achilles Township in Decatur County. He attended rural grade school and Decatur Community High School, graduating in 1941. He attended Kansas State University.
On Nov. 12, 1947, he married Daisy Wasson at Lund Covenant Church south of Oberlin. They lived on a farm south of Achilles, where he worked as a farmer and rancher.
He was a member of Herndon Covenant Church and the Herndon Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Leota Schmidt, grandson, Evan Schmidt and great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Helm.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy of rural Oberlin; sons, Chris and wife, Sherri Schmidt of Oberlin and Joe and wife, Vicki Schmidt of Ludell; daughters, Kathleen and husband, Kurt Frisbie of Monument, Colo., and Patricia and husband, Dennis Barnett of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Herndon Covenant Church southwest of Herndon with the Rev. Keith Reuther officiating. Interment will be in Achilles Cemetery in rural Oberlin.
Visitation will be Thursday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Friday from 8 a.m., until the time of service at the church.
