OBERLIN -- Bernadine R. Fred, 85, died Friday (Aug. 24, 2007) at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.

She was born March 1, 1922, Silvis, Ill., to Fred Groene and Florence Hauser. She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa and received her education there.

She married Amos Glen Fred on Nov. 24, 1944. They lived on a farm south of Herndon for 57 years, before moving to Oberlin in October 2002. She worked as a homemaker.

She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and Oberlin Arts and Humanities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Groene and Florence (Hauser) Groene Jennings and Carl Jennings; husband, Amos Fred in July 1961; and two brothers, Robert and Richard Groene.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda and husband, Richard Rocco and Glenda Sprague all of Oxford, Mass.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Faith?Lutheran Church in Oberlin, with the Rev. Charlotte Strecker-Baseler officiating. Interment will follow at the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Tuesday from 8 a.m., until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Faith Lutheran Church.
