HERNDON -- William "Bill" C. Solko, 82, died Thursday (Aug. 16, 2007) at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Inman, Kan.
He was born Oct. 12, 1924, to Elizabeth (Neuburger) and Joseph H. Solko in Herndon. He attended school in Herndon and graduated from Herndon High School.
He worked from many years for the Rawlins County Road Department and built terraces for Phil and Jerry Niemeth in Herndon.
He was a member of the St. Mary's Assumption Church in Herndon and the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children; five sisters; four brothers; and son-in-law, Bill Sligar.
Survivors include his son, Bill and wife, Schelly of Bakersfield, Calif.; daughter, Virginia and husband, Bob McDowell of Hutchinson, Kan.; four grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Assumption Catholic Church in Herndon, with the Rev. Galen Long officiating. Interment will be in St.Mary's cemetery in Herndon.
A parish vigil and Knights of Columbus rosary is today at 6 p.m., at the church,
Memorials may be given in his name to St. Mary's Cemetery fund and left at Williams Funeral Home in Atwood.
