McCook Juniors' season ends with losses at state tourney

SIDNEY -- The season came to an end for the McCook First Central Bank squad with a pair of losses at the 2007 American Legion Juniors Class B State Baseball Tournament.

The Class B State Tournament is being played at Sidney's Legion Field in Legion Park.

Rain forced several games to be postponed and pushed McCook's first-round game against Sidney to Sunday.

The McCook Juniors lost to Sidney 6-5 in 10 innings and were dropped into the consolation bracket.

Sunday afternoon, McCook was eliminated by Wahoo 15-4.

The McCook Juniors, coached by Evan Koetter and Mike Broomfield, finished the season 17-17.

Members of the team are Austin Larson, Kyle Harms, Shane Wallen, Cody Broomfield, Nick Kenny, Matt Thayer, Dillon Goltl, Mike Grabowski, Jeff Lorentz, Adam Kruger and Nate Gleason.

In other first-round games, Gretna defeated Wayne 10-1, Beatrice defeated Wahoo 10-5 and Ogallala defeated O'Neill 9-8.

In another consolation game Sunday, Wayne eliminated O'Neill 16-9.

In the winner's bracket, Ogallala defeated Gretna 3-1 and Beatrice ripped Sidney 13-3 in a five-inning run-rule contest.

In elimination games today, Wahoo plays Gretna and Wayne plays Sidney.

In a winner's bracket game tonight, Ogallala plays Beatrice.

Game times today are 2:30, 5 and 7:30 p.m. mountain time.

On Tuesday, the Wahoo-Gretna winner plays the Ogallala-Beatrice loser at 5 p.m. MT and the Wayne-Sidney winner plays the Ogallala-Betrice winner at 7:30 p.m. MT.

Wednesday, the two winners of Tuesday's games will play for the championship at 5 p.m. MT, followed by a second title game if needed at 7:30 p.m. MT.
