LaVaughn L. Fries

LaVaughn L. Fries died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Bryan LGH Hospital East in Lincoln, at the age of 88.
She was born Febr. 25, 1919, on the Hock family farmstead, the daughter of the late George J. and Agnes Merle (Hilebrandt) Hock. She grew up on the family farmstead and attended the same country rural school as her father. She was baptized as a baby and later confirmed in the German Congregational Church at Culbertson. She graduated from Culbertson High School.
On April 25, 1937, LaVaughn married John Fries on the family farmstead.
She taught Sunday School for many years and was Sunday School superintendent in the German Congregational Church. She was secretary and president of the Posy Pals Federated Garden Club at Palisade, Nebr. She was a member and president of the Federated Women's Club. She was a member and president of the United Methodist Women at Palisade where she helped finance half of the stained glass window in the Palisade Church during her term as president.
For two years, she was treasurer of the United Methodist Women of the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook.
She was a member of the Palisade Chapter No. 318 Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Beverly Ladies Aid for over 60 years and a member of Chapter FA PEO in McCook.
She cleaned and restored many dolls for the Helping Hand Thrift Shop where she also worked.
She had the honor to present a sermon she completed and entitled "What Is Faith?" at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. She was a devoted and faithful member of her church.
She and husband, John, lived and worked on the family farm west of Beverly for 49 years, retiring in 1986, and moving to McCook, Nebr.
She was preceded in death by her her parents; two brothers, Leslie and Arvin Hock; two sisters, Naomi Beebe and Velma Pollmann; daughers-in-law, Judy and Roxie Ann.
LaVaughn is survived by her husband, John of McCook; five sons, Steven Fries and wife, Gayleen of Culbertson, Nebr., Tyrone Fries and wife, Donna of Plattsmouth, Nebr., Wayne Fries of Leander, Texas, Harvey Fries and wife, Betty of Lincoln and Russell Fries and wife, Ruth of Smithville, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Travis, Todd, David, Tyanne, Beth, Cathy, Michael, Angela, Jessica, Jennifer, Andrew and William; 13 great-grandchildren; and relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, at the Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be at the Culbertson Cemetery in Culbertson, Nebr.
Memorials may be given in her name.
