Ava MaRee Leggott

GRAND ISLAND -- Ava MaRee Leggott, 90, formerly of Elwood, died Sunday (July 22, 2007), at Wedgewood Care Home in Grand Island.

She was born Jan. 24, 1917, southwest of Elwood to Milo and Emma (Harms) Miles.

She graduated from Elwood High School in 1935 and taught at a rural school near Elwood.

On June 18, 1939, she married Galen Leggott at the First Christian Church in Elwood. He died in 1984.

In 1999 she moved to Lexington and in 2001 she moved to Grand Island to be closer to her son.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Christian Church where she helped with children's choir, CWF and the Win-A-Couple Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Galen; three brothers, Gaylord, Harold and Gerald Miles; and a sister, Iva.

Survivors include her son, Michael and wife Betty Leggott of Grand Island; two sisters-in-law, Beth Leggott and Elva Miles; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the First Christian Church in Elwood, with the Rev. Steven Jergensen officiating. Interment will be at the Elwood Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., at the Elwood Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
