Korte fans 13 in relief outing

CAMBRIDGE -- The Furnas County Seniors had to come from behind to earn a hard fought first-round game Thursday night against the Thompson Creek nine at the American Legion Class C7 baseball tournament.

Lance Korte was called on in early relief as Thompson Creek roughed up Furnas County starting pitcher Jackson Johnson. Johnson lasted a mere 1 1/3 innings as Thompson Creek jumped out to a three-run lead.

Korte came on and worked the last 5 2/3 innings. He struck out 13 and allowed two earned runs.

Third baseman Ryan Eder had a prolific night at the plate as he was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Andrew Winscot had two hits while Josh Keener, Johnson and Cochran each contributed a base knock.

The Furnas County Seniors advance to the winner's bracket and will face the winner of the Ravenna-Overton first-round game.

Game time will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Shelton/Gibbon 12, Elwood 1

A big fourth inning propelled Shelton/Gibbon to 12-1 win over Elwood.

The winning pitcher was Sean Smith, while catcher Tyler Schultz was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Shelton/Gibbon advances and will play the winner of the Buckley and Alma contest.
