MAYWOOD -- Elgie Leonard Werkmeister, 81, of Maywood died Monday (July 16, 2007) at North Platte.
He was born March 28, 1926, at White in Hayes County to Adolph and Ella (Klug) Werkmeister. He attended school at Valley.
On Sept. 22, 1948, he married Betty Robertson in North Platte. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
He was a member of the VFW, American Rifle Association, AMVETS Post 30 of Maywood and served on the FFA Board.
He was baptized as a child in the Lutheran Faith. He was a farmer and rancher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Max and Raymond; sister-in-law, Jean; and brother-in-law, Chet Bennett.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Maywood; children, Sherri Werkmeister and Elwyn Werkmeister of Maywood; three brothers, Leo Werkmeister, of Maywood, Earnest and wife, Pat Werkmeister of Longmont, Colo., and Melvin and wife, Lucille Werkmeister of Maywood; three sisters, Lois Bennett of Niwot, Colo., Arlene Werkmeister of Longmont, Colo., and Darlene Werkmeister of Maywood; two sisters-in-law, Donna Werkmeister of Maywood and Roberta Werkmeister of Palisade; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Graveside services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at the Maywood, Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Heimer officiating.
