BEAVER CITY -- Donald G. Gardner, 83, of Beaver City, died Monday (July 16, 2007) at Norton County Hospital at Norton, Kan.
He was born July 28, 1923, in Gosper County to George and Daisy (Morse) Gardner. He attended country school in Gosper County.
He served 32 months in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He received his purple heart from injuries on March 30, 1944.
He married Norma Lea David on Aug. 30, 1944, at Norton. They moved to their present farm northwest of Beaver City in 1947 and continued to farm until his death. He was a life long farmer in Furnas and Gosper counties.
He received the Beaver Sappa SWDC Conservation award in 1965, and served on the Edison Coop board for three years, six years on the board of directors at Hendley Elevator and eight years on Arapahoe Coop board. He attended McCook Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon and Duane.
Survivors include wife, Norma of Beaver City; two daughters, Janet and husband, Ron McClain of Beaver City and Dawna and husband, Clark Bates of McCook; two sisters-in-law, Joyce and Margie Gardner of Arapahoe; six children; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at the Arapahoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Keith Theobald officiating.
