ALMA?-- Ralph M. Johnson, 87, formerly of Stamford died Monday (July 16, 2007) at Harlan County Hospital at Alma.
He was born Dec. 31, 1919, at Stamford to Lowell and Edith (Hanson) Johnson.
He grew up in the Stamford area, graduating from Stamford High School with the class of 1938. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree in agriculture. He taught high school for one year following graduation.
He ran a cattle operation at the family farm south of Stamford for a number of years. Through the cooperative extension service he taught agriculture classes to many young farmers in the area.
He moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Alma several years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Ellis.
Survivors include his brother, Ervin of Beaver City; brother-in-law, John and wife, Ahda Ellis of Lincoln; four nieces; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at First Christian Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Phil?Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Stamford.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
