GRAND ISLAND -- Albert W. Culton, 86, died Friday (July 6, 2007) at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

He was born Sept. 7, 1920, at North Platte, to Albert and Marie (Brodbeck) Culton. He graduated from North Platte High School and attended Midland Lutheran College. He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946.

He married Sarah Kickenbottom in North Platte. She died at a young age of only 31 years. He played drums in local bands and moved to California where he worked for a pest control company and continued playing drums. After a stroke, he moved back to Grand Island to live with his daughter.

He was a member of the Eagles Drum Bugle Corps.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah and his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Evans of McCook; sister, Florence Phillips and husband, Web of McCook; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, at the Grand Island Veterans Home -- All Faiths Chapel with the Rev. Sheri Lodel officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Westerville City Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Ansley and Broken Bow VFW's and American Legions.

Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
