LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Dennis Irwin of McCook competed last week in the National Senior Games in Louisville, Ky.

The NSG take place every two years.

To qualify to compete in them, an individual or team must win first, second or third in a state competition.

Irwin won the championship in tennis in Colorado and Nebraska last years to qualify for the 2007 National Senior Games.

At this year's National Senior Games he finished eighth in the nation in men's tennis singles.

Irwin teamed with Ken Tharp of Lincoln to play in the tennis doubles.

Irwin and Tharp lost in the round of 16 (in a third set tiebreaker) to a team from Arizona that finished second.
