evens season record to 10-10

The McCook First Central Bank Juniors American Legion baseball team evened its season record at 10-10 with a 15-0 victory Thursday night over Imperial-Grant at Jaycee Sports Complex.

"We started off a little slow but picked up the pace in third inning," said McCook coach Lirin Yost.

"We started Austin Larson on the hill for us and he threw a good three innings for us facing 10 batters and recorded six strikeouts, one walk and allowed only one hit.

"Then Jeff Lorentz came in and shut them down in the fourth inning. Our bats started out slow again, but the guys started getting on base with some walks and scored one run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

"Then in the third inning, the bats were warming up with Austin Larson getting a single and Mike Grabowski hitting a double. We scored three runs in that inning to take a 4-0 lead.

"Then in the bottom of the fourth inning we took control of the game, we had four singles and three doubles by the guys to end the game by the 15-run rule."

Matt Thayer went 2 for 2 with a single and a double.

Kyle Harms, Adam Kruger, Jeff Lorentz, and Mike Grabowski all went 1 for 3.

Dillon Goltl, Cody Broomfield, and Austin Larson all went 1 for 2.

McCook plays at Lexington tonight at 5:30 and plays in the six-team Wahoo Tournament Saturday and Sunday.
