ARAPAHOE -- Elvira Johanna Ella Bloch, 89, died Wednesday (June 27, 2007) at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Sept. 8, 1917, on a farm north of Arapahoe in Gosper County to Karl E.J. and Ida (Hartman) Wendland. She was baptized on Oct. 8, 1917, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gosper County and was confirmed on June 24, 1931.

On Feb. 15, 1935, she married Howard O. Waln in Gosper County. He preceded her in death.

On Dec. 2, 1956, she married Harold A. Bloch at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln. They lived in Lincoln, where she worked at the Regional Center for two years and then at Lincoln Public Schools as a custodian for 28 years.

In September of 1989, they moved to Arapahoe. He died Oct. 13, 1989.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and LWML of Lincoln and Trinity Lutheran Church and Trinity LWML of Arapahoe. She was also an assistant den mother for her sons' Boy Scout group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Howard and Harold; three sons, infant, Lee Martin, Vaughn and Charles; brothers, Carl, Max, Leonard, Martin, George and Victor Wendland; and sisters, Henrietta, Emma and Bertha.

Survivors include her four sons, Lyle and wife, Carol Waln, Kenneth and David Bloch, all of Barstow, Calif., and Robert Bloch of Lincoln; three daughters, LaVeta Griffith of Emmitt, Idaho, Nila Delanie and Gladys Fields, both of Barstow, Calif.; two sisters, Margaret Dahm and Helene Dickmeyer, both of Arapahoe; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe, with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery north of Arapahoe.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Saturday..
