Postal Service to close Dresden office June 29

Saturday, June 16, 2007

DRESDEN -- Dresden was notified Tuesday by the U.S. Postal Service that it would be closing the Post Office on June 29.

It has recently been open just two hours daily. The reason given was lack of trained personnel.

Many residents of Dresden do not agree, knowing of several trained persons available to open the office daily.

The U.S. Postal Authority did not offer any other options and did not allow much time for any solutions or responses. The closing will create inconvenience and also hardship for the mostly elderly, who compose the population of Dresden, opponents of the closing said.

The Postal Authority will be presenting a meeting detailing the closing on Wednesday June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Dresden Methodist Church Basement.
