Elsie Gertrude 'Gertie' Sparks, 100, died Tuesday (June 5, 2007) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born March 15, 1907, at Belden to Eugene and Edna (Yale) Childers. She grew up in Belden, where she graduated from Belden High School.

On Feb. 1, 1928, she married Albert Jordan and they lived in Wausa. He died in 1940.

In September of 1945, she married Harry Sparks and they moved to McCook in 1948, and then returned to Hartington. Following Harry's death, she moved to Danbury in 1984.

She was a member of the Danbury Presbyterian Church and Danbury American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Albert and Harry; daughter, Edna Graham; son, Richard Jordan; three brothers, Tolbert, Art and Herb Childers; and one sister, Marvel Childers.

Survivors include her two daughters, Norma Jordan of Portland, Ore., and Joyce Remington and husband, Rex of Danbury; sister, Esther Graffis of Chehalis, Wash.; and relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook, with the Rev. Jon Albrecht officiating. Interment will be Saturday in the Hartington Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call the funeral home from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
