STRATTON -- Margaret C. Merrill, 94, died Friday (June 1, 2007) at El Dorado Manor in Trenton.
She was born Nov. 3, 1912, to Edwin and Mable (Williamson) Zigler on a farm south of Stratton in Hitchcock County. She attended school in Stratton and was a member of the graduating class of 1930 at Stratton High School.
On May 28, 1932, she was united in marriage to Floyd Merrill at Atwood.
She attended college to become a teacher. Her teaching career spanned many years and included teaching children in country schools and the second grade at Stratton Public Schools. She also taught at Trenton Public Schools for several years. She served as the librarian at the Stratton Public Library and was active on the Library Board.
She was active in helping with Cub Scouts, and the Campfire Girls. She also helped her family who owned and operated the theater in Stratton.
After the death of her husband, she continued to make her home in Stratton, until Feb. 28, 2000, when she moved to El Dorado Manor due to failing health.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Edwin and Mable Zigler; her husband, Floyd Merrill; sisters, Velma and Ruby; brothers, Virgil, Clyde and Leonard; daughter-in-law, Patricia Merrill; and son-in-law, Raymon Maiellaro.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Maiellaro of Omaha; son, Don Merrill of Stratton; sister, LaVerna Post of Corning, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service with inurnment will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton with Richard Stahly officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Grandview Retirement Center in Stratton, or the Stratton Public Library.
Arrangements are under the direction of Forch Funeral Chapel of Stratton.
