OBERLIN -- Genola Aileen Claussen, 87, died Sunday (May 27, 2007) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
She was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Oberlin to Clifton and Ida M. (Barr) Waldo. She grew up in Oberlin and attended Oberlin Elementary School and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1938.
On March 23, 1941, she married Don Claussen in Oberlin. During World War II, they lived in California and later lived in Laramie, Wyo., Garden City and Meade, Kan., before returning to Oberlin. She worked as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Charles "Chuck" Claussen in 1985, Donna Hullet in 1999 and James Claussen in 2007; grandson, David Claussen in 1991; step-grandson, Jeff Jamen; three siblings, Glenn and Ralph Waldo and Gladys Scott; and four half-siblings, Dwight Waldo, Grace Norton, Mabel Hanson and Marie Enyhart.
Survivors include her husband, Don of Oberlin; two daughters-in-law, Cathy Claussen of Oberlin and Bonnie Claussen of Denton, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Loyd and wife, Mary Waldo of Oberlin; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin, with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Burial will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 8 a.m., until time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Oberlin American Legion Avenue of Flags Fund.
