CAMBRIDGE -- The West was the best at the Cambridge All-Star Basketball Games Friday night in the Cambridge High School gymnasium Friday night.
The West senior boys placed five players in double figures and nearly had seven in a 110-65 rout of the East squad.
The West senior girls, paced by Most Valuable Player Taryn Placzek of McCook and Chase County's Whitney Paisley, posted an 60-56 victory.
Two West boys posted double-doubles. Wallace's Wiley Sowle, who was the MVP along with the East's Lance Thorell of Loomis, had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Perkins County's Lance Wilson had 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Three players from Wauneta-Palisade, the Nebraska Class D-1 state champions, also scored in double figures for the West -- Marc Klima scored 16 points, Andrew Isom 14 and Russell Ridlen 13.
Chase County's Taylor Wentz added 9 points and Hitchcock County's Josh Kershaw 8.
Wauneta-Palisade's Trevor Ridlen scored 6 points, Perkins County's Troy Soper 3 and Hitchcock County's John Thompson 2.
Thompson added 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Thorell led the East team with 12 points. Holdrege's Stephen Schutz added 11, Loomis' Cory Morten 9, Bertrand's Jordan High 8, Arapahoe's Adam Borden 7, Southern Valley's Taylor Lueking 6, Southwest's Landon Ruggles 4 and Southern Valley's Gaven Fults 2.
Bertrand's Cory Nelsen did not score but grabbed 5 rebounds.
The West boys led 22-21 after one quarter and used a 31-11 second quarter and a 21-7 third period to blow the game open.
The West boys made 20-of-26 free throws and outrebounded the East 65-50.
The two teams combined for 176 shots.
The West boys were coached by Perkins County's Larry Pritchett, with assistance from Wauneta-Palisade's Scott Norris.
The East boys head coach was Arapahoe's Bob Braithwait. His assistant was Holdrege's Brian Komenda.
West girls 60,

The West girls used a 22-14 fourth quarter to pull away from the East girls.
Paisley had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Placzek had 12 points and 3 rebounds.
Medicine Valley's Olivia Klein and Lacy Bryant each scored 7 points, followed by Chase County's Celeste Pankonin 6, Hayes Center's Lichelle Large 4, Dundy County's Kayla Damrow 4 and Wauneta-Palisade's Allison Ellicott and Gina Geier 3 each.
Large led the West with 9 rebounds.
McCook's Betsy Kohmetscher was a member of the West squad, but did not play.
Southern Valley's Ashley Strickland, who was named the East Girls MVP, led the East with 14 points.
Southwest's Chelsey Quigley added 11 and Cambridge's Kymbre Lytle 10.
Bertrand's Abby Fastneau contributed 8 points, Alma's Chelsey Losey 4, Southern Valley's Emily Witte 3, Southwest's Magan Dolan 3, Arapahoe's Sarah Urbom 2 and Elwood's Britney Zeller 1.
Arapahoe's Jennie Clinton did not score but pulled down 1 rebound and dished off 3 assists.
Dolan had 11 rebounds and Lytle 7. Five players had 2 steals each.
The West head coach was Hayes Center's Krystal Sauser. Her assistant was Maywood's Janice Arent.
Southwest's Dennis Troester was the head coach for the East girls. His assistant was Eustis-Farnam's Elroy Pierce.
Proceeds from the games benefited the Cambridge School Organization.
