Transmeier, Johnson claim medals at Class C-2 state golf

NORTH PLATTE -- Eustis-Farnam High School's Josh Transmeier tied for 13th place at the Nebraska Class C-2 state golf tournament with a two-day total of 160 (82-78), and Cambridge's Jackson Johnson finished 15th with a 161 score (79-82).

The Class C-2 state tournament was played Tuesday and Wednesday at North Platte Country Club.

Transmeier qualified for the state tournament by finishing second at districts.

His qualifying score of 84 placed him in the mid 20's for a starting position. On day one he was grouped with Bo Cribelli of Cambridge, who was the C2-4 district champion.

Cribelli just missed a medal by shooting a 162 (83-79).

"Josh was all over the course on the first day but he repeatedly scrambled out of trouble to salvage an 82," said Eustis-Farnam coach Bobby Johnson.

"That score placed him in a 4-way tie for 22nd position along with Cribelli. On day two he played his best round of the season and finished with a 78.

"We established a goal of 77 for the day and the key was to par the difficult second hole which he struggled with on every previous round on this course.

"Before the round even started, his coach recorded a score of par on the scorecard for good luck. He did score a par on the second hole which set the standard for a consistent round.

This is a good ending to the season in a revival of the golf program at Eustis-Farnam. Josh's experience and knowledge should help to improve the team for next season."

The Cambridge golf team placed 10th with a two-day score of 696 (342-354) and Hitchcock County was 11th with a 709 score (356-353).

Johnson and Cribelli were supported on the Cambridge Trojans' squad by teammates Taylor Lewis 185 (91-94), Troy Hayes 190 (90-100) and Caitlin Rice 191 (93-98).

Hitchcock County's top golfer was Adam Wright, who fired a 170 (80-90).

He was followed by Ryne Thompson 172 (84-88), Justin Heffner 175 (86-89), John Thompson 197 (108-89) and Zyle Nelson 203 (103-100).

Area individuals competing were Leon Preston, Dundy County 168 (85-83); and Marc Klima, Wauneta-Palisade 170 (80-90).

Franklin ran away with the Class C-2 state title with a 636 score (314-322). Creek Valley was a distant second at 668 (334-334).

Archbishop Bergan's Joey Spellerberg won first-place medalist honors. He fired a pair of 73s to post a 146 score and 7-stroke victory over four players at 153.

Chase County-Imperial's Jubal Joslyn was the lone area golfer competing in the Class C-1 state tournament at Kearney's Meadowlark Hills Golf Course.

Joslyn did not medal but tied for 22nd place with a 164 score (84-80) with two other golfers.

Gibbon won the Class C-1 state title with a 624 score (311-313).

Gibbon also claimed first- and second-place in the individual standings. Joshua and Jordan Reinertson placed 1-2 with scores of 141 (69-72) and 145 (74-71).
