ARAPAHOE -- Jerry Dale Horton, 61, formerly of Arapahoe died Thursday (May 10, 2007) at Cherrelyn Health Care Center in Littleton, Colo.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1945, at McCook to Van H. and Lora C. (Taylor) Horton. He graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1964.
He started working for Hinky Dinky grocery stores in North Platte, as a stock boy and worked his way up to management while also working at stores in Kearney, Sioux Falls, S.D., and McCook.
He purchased the Jack & Jill grocery store in Wauneta, in 1984, and operated it for a few years before managing the Nash Finch grocery stores in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Liberal, Kan. He retired and moved back to Arapahoe. In September 2005, he moved to Littleton.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe and served in the Nebraska National Guard Reserve.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sunny Ann Horton and brother-in-law, Lyle Weber.
Survivors include his son, Trey and wife, Stephanie Horton of Castle Rock, Colo.; daughters, Tori and husband, Tim Hamill of Denver, Colo., Tracia and husband, Cedric Hawkins of Albuquerque, N.M., and Talana and husband, Jeff Howard of Ridgecrest, Calif.; brother, Dan and wife, Verna Raye Horton of McCook,; sister, Colleen Weber of Arapahoe; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
