SELDEN, Kan. -- Art Wessel, 61, died Tuesday (May 8, 2007) at his home.

He was born June 15, 1945, to Libory William and Elizabeth "Elsie" Augusta (Schwarz) Wessel in Colby, Kan. He grew up on a farm in Sheridan County and attended Selden Grade School. He graduated from Selden Rural High School in 1963.

He served in the U.S. Army through 1965-1967.

He married Karla Paulson on July 19, 1969, in Selden. They lived in the Selden area, where he worked as a farmer.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic?Church and American Legion Post, both of Selden.

He was preceded in death by his father, Libory Wessel, sister, Mary Dellere and an infant child.

Survivors include his wife, Karla of Selden; sons, Ben and wife, Christa of Bonner Springs, Kan., Dan and wife, Melissa of Hoxie and Chris and wife, Robynn of Selden; his mother, Elsie of Hoxie; brothers, Robert and wife, Pat Wessel of Selden, John Wessel of Selden and Bill and wife, Carol Wessel of Dresden, Kan.; brother-in-law, Jim Dellere and wife, Sue of Salina, Kan.; sisters, Kathryn Schieferecke and husband, Bill of Studley, Kan., Margie Blaska and husband, Gene of Salina, Kan., Martha Wassemiller and husband, Fred of Monument, Kan., and Betty Hickert and husband, Rick of Selden; and four grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Selden, with the Rev. Henry Saw Lone officiating. Interment will be in Selden Cemetery.

Vigil services will be Sunday, 7:30 p.m., at Pauls funeral home in Selden. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m., until the time of service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Via Christi Renal Transplant Fund in Wichita, Kan.
