Falcon golfers roll to Cattle Trail crown

CURTIS -- The Hitchcock County golf team blistered the field by 25 strokes at the 2007 Cattle Trail Tournament Wednesday en route to the title.

Falcons' golfer Adam Wright shot an 82 to claim first-place medalist honors.

The tournament took place on the Arrowhead Meadows Golf Course in Curtis and was hosted by Medicine Valley High School.

Hitchcock County posted a 352 score. Southwest placed second with 377, followed by Eustis-Farnam 390, Medicine Valley 403, Arapahoe 409, Dundy County 426 and Cambridge junior varsity 458.

Three Hayes Center golfers competed.

"The Eustis-Farnam golf team had a successful outing at the Cattle Trail Invite," said Eustis-Farnam golf coach Bobby Johnson.

"There were a small number of contenders so play flowed quite well, which allows for more consistent play. This allowed one of young golfers to shoot his best round of the season.

"Weston Keller played a solid round of 89 and finished in sixth place. His score was even with his teammate Josh Transmeier, but Josh took the fifth position in a playoff.

"It was an ideal day for golf in the beautiful setting of Arrowhead Meadows Golf Course."

Area teams will compete in district golf tournaments Tuesday.

Chase County, Perkins County, Southwest and Southern Valley will compete in the Class C1-5 district at North Platte Country Club.

The Class C2-4 district field at Cambridge's Cross Creek course includes Arapahoe, Cambridge, Dundy County, Eustis-Farnam, Hayes Center, Hitchcock County, Medicine Valley and Wauneta-Palisade.

The top 15 players in the Cattle Trail tournament won medals.
