CAMBRIDGE -- Eldon H. "Hank" Fiene, 71, died Saturday (May 5, 2007) at Cambridge Manor. 

He was born on the family farm near Eustis in Frontier County on Sept. 9, 1935, to Ernest John and Clara (Oelkers) Fiene Sr.  He was baptized at a very young age on Sept. 23, 1935, at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Elwood and was confirmed there on May 15, 1949. 

He attended school in Eustis until his junior year in high school. His family needed an extra hand on the farm.  He worked with his dad south of Eustis and also two years south of Elwood on the Huckfeldt farm.  He moved north of Cambridge to work with his uncle Alfred on the Hablitzel farm, which he later bought. He lived there for 46 years. 

He served in the Nebraska National Guard for six years with his unit being based out of Lexington.

On May 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Lois Carleen Noltie at the American Lutheran Church in Arapahoe.  They transferred their membership to the Salem Lutheran Church and later in 1963, to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge. 

He worked several years for the ASCS office in Curtis. He raised registered Angus cattle. He also worked for Jerry Petersen trucking, the Nebraska Pork Producers driving semi trailer truck.   

He served on various church boards and was still a current member of the St. Paul's. He served on the Frontier County Fair Board for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara in 1984 and Ernest Sr. in 1998; and a brother, Don in 1984

Survivors include his wife, Carleen of Cambridge; two sons, Rod and wife, Patricia of Oceanside, Calif., and Shad and wife, Staci of Cambridge; one brother, Ernest Jr. and wife Dorothy of Johnson Lake; two sisters, Leota Davis of Lincoln, and Delores "DeeDee" and husband, Dan McGrath of Omaha; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge with the Rev. David Feddern officiating.  Interment will be in the Holbrook Cemetery . 

Memorials may be left in his name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
