Rebels 14 Black first at NP tourney

NORTH PLATTE -- The Rebels traveled to North Platte for the first tournament of the season to take first place.

Saturday in pool play the Rebels ended up with one tie, one win and one loss to end up with third seed for the tournament.

Sunday the Rebels won their first game to advance to the championship game to capture the win and take first.

The Rebels tied 7-7 with the North Platte Belles.

Meagan Carfield, Erin Premer and Caitlyn Wudtke singled, Brittini Bieker, Gretchen Sehnert and Jaci Saalfeld singled and each had an RBI.

Amanda Einspahr had two singles and Kelsey Gillen had a single and a triple with two RBIs. Bieker pitched and allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

The Rebels smashed Gothenburg Angels 16-0.

Sehnert and Taylor Matson singled and Wudtke, Amberette Burkey and Saalfeld all singled with RBIs.

Kim Holthus singled with two RBIs, Einspahr had two singles with one RBI and Premer had two singles with three RBIs.

Carfield had two singles, Gillen and Rachel Bradley doubled with one RBI and Bieker tripled with two RBIs. Gillen pitched a no hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk.

The Rebels fell to North Platte Sensations 6-4.

Burkey, Carfield and Holthus singled, Saalfeld had two singles and one RBI and Einspahr had a single and a double.

Bradley doubled and Gillen had two doubles and three RBIs. Bieker pitched and allowed seven hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

The two teams returned on Sunday with the Rebels taking the win over the Sensations 5-3.

Bieker and Burkey singled, Einspahr singled with a RBI and Carfield had two singles.

Matson had one RBI, Gillen and Sehnert doubled with one RBI each and Premer had a single and a double. Gillen pitched and allowed four hits, four walks and six strikeouts.

The Rebels went up against the North Platte Belles again in the championship, winning 5-3.

Burkey singled, Gillen had two singles and Sehnert and Einspahr had two singles, and one RBI each. Premer singled, tripled and had three RBIs. Bieker pitched and allowed five hits, five walks and four strikeouts.

"The girls played very well for the first tournament of the season," said Rebels coach Lance Gillen. "They hit the ball very well. Saturday they made some errors on defense, but came back Sunday and played very well.

"Overall it was a good tournament for the girls, it was fun and the weather was great."

The Rebels play at home on Saturday against the North Platte Belles at 10 a.m.
