Bison golfers 10th in Kearney meet

KEARNEY -- The McCook High School boys golf team placed 10th out of 14 teams at the Kearney Invitational Monday at the Meadowlark Hills course.

The meet was a make-up date from April 5.

The Bison golfers posted a 346 score. Lincoln Southwest won the tournament with a 290 score. Norfolk was second at 301, followed by North Platte with 315.

No McCook golfers medaled. Aaron Goodenberger led the Bison with an 84, followed by Eric Rippen and Bryce Buhr with 87s, Joe Vetrovsky 88, Adam Kruger 89 and Lance Korte 91.

Lincoln Southwest's Austin Zimmerman claimed first-place medalist honors with a 69.

McCook competes at the Greater Nebraska Activities Conference meet at 9 a.m. Friday at Lexington.

Cambridge wins

W-P Invitational

ENDERS -- The Cambridge golf team won the Wauneta-Palisade Invitational Monday at the Enders course, and Hitchcock County's Ryne Thompson claimed first-place individual medalist honors with a 78.

The Trojans finished first with a 343 score, followed by Hitchcock County at 359, Sutherland 363, Wauneta-Palisade 374, Dundy County 387, Medicine Valley 392, South Platte 425 and Chase County Junior Varsity 432.

South Platte's Colby Johnson placed second with an 81.

Wauneta-Palisade's Marc Klima placed third with an 82 and teammate Michael Gardner was ninth with an 87. Gardner defeated Cambridge's Bo Cribelli and Medicine Valley's Vince Chancellor in a playoff for ninth place.

Dundy County's Leon Preston placed fourth with an 83. He defeated Sutherland's Kyle Stevenson and Johnson in a playoff for fourth place.

Cambridge's Taylor Lewis was seventh with an 84. Sutherland's Austin Boggs was eighth with an 85.

Oberlin

golfers 8th

at TMP meet

HAYS, Kan. -- The Decatur Community-Oberlin golf team placed eighth out of 13 teams at the Thomas More Prep Invitational Monday at Hays, Kan.

The tournament was played on the Smoky Hill Country Club course.

Oberlin posted a 372 score. Hays High won the tournament with a 326 score,

Jobey Black placed the Red Devils with an 84, followed by Corey Cook 86, Andy Gilliam 98, Nathan Simonsson 104 and Jordan Tally 111.

"This is a good experience to play such a fine golf course," said Oberlin golf coach Dick Ahlberg. "Smoky Hill is a championship golf course."

Oberlin hosted several Kansas teams Saturday.

Goodland won the tournament, Colby took second and Hoxie was third. Oberlin took fourth, Rawlins County was fifth and Quinter took sixth.

Brewster ended the day in seventh and Rawlins County JV was eighth.

Black finished seventh for the Red Devils with a score of 85. Cook followed in ninth place at 86. Breck Simonsson just missed medaling with an 87, Gilliam shot 101 and Nathan Simonsson 104.

The Red Devils compete at the Colby Invitational at 1 p.m. Thursday and host the Oberlin Invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
