Jessa Sughroue sets JH girls 1600 record at Lexington

On April 16, the McCook Junior High girls track team competed in the Lexington Triangular with Lexington and Ogallala. No team scores were kept.

The highlight of the meet came when Jessa Sughroue won her individual event and broke the school record in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:42.

In 7th grade high jump, Jasmine Fassler came in 6th, while Nicole Eisenach, Elise Polly and Caitlyn Wudtke went 4th, 5th and 6th, respectively in the 8th grade division.

McKenzie Schmitz, Moriah Salyer, Rachel Bradley and Sierra Ortiz finished 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th in the 7th grade long jump.

In the 8th grade division, Kasha Messersmith, Kristen Green, Kelsea Geschwentner and Elise Polly went 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th respectively. Green also placed third in the 8th grade triple jump, while Jaci Saalfeld placed 6th.

Matyll Jones won the 7th grade triple jump. In the 7th grade girls shot, Hailey Carfield, Jenna Smith and Whitney Sis finished 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.

In the 8th grade division, Katelyn Fritsche came in 5th. Taylor Daniel placed 4th in the 7th grade discus, while Erin Premer won the 8th grade discus and Messersmith finished 4th.

In the 7th grade 100 meter dash Schmitz finished first, with Megan Rokusek and Bradley finishing 5th and 6th respectively.

In the 8th grade division, Hailey Esch and Amanda Einspahr came in 3rd and 5th. Fassler, Taylor Hansen and Bradley finished 2nd, 3rd and 6th respectively in the 7th grade 200 meter dash.

In the 8th grade division Einspahr and Esch came in 3rd and 4th while Morgan Jones finished 5th. In the 7th grade 400 meter dash, Amanda Brush placed 5th and in the 8th grade division, Amber Piper, Jordan Pick and Karen Gonzales finished 2nd, 4th and 5th.

In the 7th grade 800 meter run, Chynna Younger came in 6th place and in the 8th grade division, Geshwentner placed 2nd. In the 7th grade 75 meter high hurdles, Hansen and Anna West came in 3rd and 4th respectively.

Caitlyn Wudtke and Shelby Allen placed 3rd and 6th in the 8th grade division. Jackie Carfield and Anna West finished 2nd and 4th in the 7th grade 195 meter high hurdles. Both 7th and 8th grade relay teams won the 400 meter relay.

Seventh grade team members include Schmitz, Fassler, Hansen and Salyer. 8th grade team members include, Einspahr, Wudtke, Green and Sughroue.

The 8th grade relay team of Geschwentner, Pick, Piper and Sughroue won the 1600 meter relay, while the 7th grade team of Ortiz, Brush, Matyll Jones and Rokusek came in 2nd in the 7th grade division.

Last Friday, the McCook Junior High Girls track team competed in the Holdrege Middle School Invite.

Seventh and 8th grade divisions were combined and no team scores were kept. Jessa Sughroue again won her individual event and broke the meet record in the 800 meter run.

Kelsea Geschwentner came in 2nd in the 800 meter run. Erin Premer finished 5th in the discus.

Kristen Green, McKenzie Schmitz and Kasha Messersmith placed 4th, 5th and 6th respectively in the long jump. Schmitz also placed 6th in the 100 meter dash.

The 8th grade team of Amanda Einspahr, Caitlyn Wudtke, Kristen Green and Jessa Sughroue won the 400 meter relay, while the 7th grade team of Rachel Bradley, Jasmine Fassler, Taylor Hansen and Schmitz came in 6th.

The 1600 relay team of Geschwentner, Karen Gonzales, Amber Piper and Sughroue finished 3rd.
