Jackilyn 'Jackie' McCarter, 63, died at Community Hospital in McCook on Jan. 4, 2007.
She was born April 24, 1943, to Thomas and Georgina (Fyrer) Grant in Ontario, Canada.
She and her first husband, Harold 'Bud' Hunter eventually settled in Lexington, where she was a dispatcher for the Lexington Police Department for 15 years.
She and her second husband, Charles 'Vern' McCarter worked in motel management for more than 20 years in various states, most recently in Grand Junction, Colo. Both retired from the motel business and pursued other opportunities, she became a certified nursing assistant and he went to work for the U.S. Forest Service as a seasonal maintenance
They moved to McCook in May 2005, to be closer to family. She worked as a part-time CNA at Hillcrest Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Grant Sr. and Georgina Grant; sister, Susan Grant; and ex-husband, Bud Hunter.
She is survived by her husband, Vern McCarter of McCook; daughter, Dawn Marin and husband, Jesus of Carroll, Iowa; son, Gerry Hunter and wife, Deann of McCook; two brothers, Thomas Grant Jr. and wife, Ida Mae and Kevin Lee Grant of Canada; one sister, Peggy Fecteau of Canada; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was cremated. A graveside memorial service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Evergreen cemetery in Lexington.
