GOTHENBURG -- The McCook High School boys golf team placed sixth out of 13 teams at the Gothenburg Invitational Thursday at the Wild Horse Golf Club.

North Platte won the tournament title with a 327 score and placed three golfers in the top seven.

Sidney placed second with a 339 score, followed by Gering 340, Lexington 343, Minden 344, McCook 349, Cozad 352, Ogallala 356, Broken Bow 372, Holdrege 379, Gothenburg 382, Eustis-Farnam 409 and Gothenburg II 427.

McCook was paced by Joe Vetrovsky, who was solid Thursday with a 42-43 for an 85, one stroke out of the medals.

Lance Korte and Eric Rippen each scored 87s, Bryce Buhr 90 and Aaron Goodenberger 94.

"If he (Vetrovsky) makes some putts he would have shot a real nice score," said McCook coach Dan Hilton.

"Lance Korte had a nice front side with a score of 38, but struggled on the back with a 49 to shoot his 87.

"Eric Rippen shoots a 41 on the front with a double bogey and a 46 on the back with two triples or he would have had a very good round."

Gering's Austin Miller captured first-place individual medalist honors with a 71.

He was five strokes better than runnerup Craig Trofholz of North Platte, who fired a 76.

Sidney's Kyle Huns was third with a 77, followed by Borth Platte's Derek Knoedler 79, Ogallala's Mike Haverman 80 and Ogallala's Tony Collins 81.

Shooting 83s were North Platte's Dave Perry, Holdrege's Travis VanEperen, Minden's Nic Carlson and Gering's Andrew Jackson.

Five players shot 84s -- Minden's Alex Jessen, Cozad's Wyatt Morse, Lexington's Matt Cunningham, Lexington's James Leibhart and Cozad's Justin Henry.

The McCook junior varsity competes at the Imperial JV Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Bison varsity will be in action at the Holdrege Invitational at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
