HERSHEY -- The McCook High School girls tennis dominated the Hershey Panthers Thursday at Hershey, claiming an 8-1 victory.

The Bison netters swept all six singles matches and won 2-of-3 doubles matches.

Winning singles matches for the Bison were Hanah Swanhorst, Melissa Lyster, Amy Lester, Alli Lester, Michelle McKenna and Brianna Watkins.

Lyster and Amy Lester teamed up for a win at No. 1 singles and the tandem of McKenna and Alli Lester won at No. 2 singles.

Swanhorst and Watkins dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Hanah (Swanhorst) had a solid match at No. 1 singles," said McCook tennis coach Matt Wiemers. "She beat a good opponent for the second time they have played. She hit her ground strokes with authority and placed her hits effectively. It was a nice win for Hanah, who also has been battling some sickness. I am happy for her to get the win and play as well as she did.

"In doubles action, Melissa and Amy continued to play some great tennis. They are putting together a nice string of wins, but most importantly they are playing well together. This weekend at Scottsbluff, will offer some important matches for them."

The McCook junior varsity girls tennis team had another solid outing, taking 16 of the 18 matches played.

"It was great to take everyone and give them all some court experience," Wiemers said. "They all played well and continued to show improvement. I have been pleased with the play of our JV's, they have had a great year.

"I appreciate their hard work and patience, as we have not been able to get as many matches as I planned due to weather conflicts. They have been a great squad to have around and coach Tara Michaelis has a wonderful job of working with them and improving their play."

The McCook girls tennis team will compete at the Scottsbluff Invitational Saturday. The tournament starts at 10 a.m. central time/9 a.m. mountain time.
