Della Mitchel, McCook Community College's women's softball coach, has resigned effective immediately.

She will be replaced by Robin Reh, who will finish out the year.

Dale Lortz, McCook High School's softball coach will be helping the team with afternoon practice.

Reh comes with a strong background in women's sports.

She played competitive fastpitch softball while in high school and before the sport became an official high school activity.

She went on to play women's sports at Butler Community College in Kansas before injuries forced her to retire from competition.

Reh later went on to coach at the high school level and was chosen to coach several all star teams in Kansas.

"I have always wanted to coach at the college level and I'm grateful for the opportunity to lead the team," Reh said.

"We are going to build from this day forward and go out and have fun each day.

"I want our team to represent McCook Community College in a positive and upbeat manner that will allow us to build for next year."

Chet DeVaughn, MCC director of athletics said he thinks Reh and Lortz will do a good job.

"We are confident that coach Reh and coach Lortz will provide a competitive and positive environment for our women's softball team as they finish out the season," DeVaughn said.

McCook Community College is also in the search process to replace MCC's men's and women's basketball coaches Ty and Michelle Orton.

Ty Orton has accepted the men's head basketball position at Dickinson State University in North Dakota.

"Both positions are currently being advertised and applications are being accepted at this time," said Michele Gilla dean of student life, who has supervisory responsibilities for all the college's athletic programs.

"We hope to fill the basketball positions quickly finding the best candidates for McCook Community College athletics," she said.

No further information is available at this time.
