Opal Irene Grant, 96, died Sunday (April 15, 2007) at her home in McCook.

She was born July 14,1920, to Russel D. and Ella May (Bartelson) Barnes at Arapahoe. She graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1937.

After graduating from McCook Jr. College she was employed by Cory Oil where she met and married Claude E. Grant on Dec. 31, 1941. During World War II she worked for the Employment Service in Scottsbluff and McCook.

Later she and Claude worked for Consolidated Motor Freight where she became office manager and continued to work after Claude's death on Sept. 30, 1975, until her retirement.

On June 14, 1984, she married Allen L. Jones of McCook. They enjoyed traveling until his death in 1993.

She was a member of the United Memorial Methodist Church in McCook for more than 50 years.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Claude E. Grant; parents, Russel D. and Ella May Barnes; brother, Russel Wayne Bames; husband, Allen L. Jones; and sister in law, Kathryn Barnes.

She is survived by her daughter, Colleen S. Grant of McCook; grandsons, Stephen and wife, Linda Guthrie of Tipton, Ind., and Greg and wife, Sylvia Guthrie of Mishawaka, Ind.; granddaughter, Lisa and husband, Jay Warran of Aurora, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Michael and Kayla Guthrie; step-great-grandchildren, Johanna Lower and Zach Treadway; step-great-great-grandchildren, Valerie Treadway, Levi Lowers, and Alyssa Treadway; and cousin Yvonne and husband, Ron Williams of Twin Falls, Idaho.

Private graveside services for the family will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
