TRENTON -- Edna Mae Donze died Friday (April 13, 2007), at the McCook Community Hospital in McCook, Neb., at the age of 91.
She was born March 17, 1916, at Orion, Kan., the daughter of the late Edward Kelly and Grace Eva (Jenkins) Moss. She attended country grade school District 44 and graduated from Grinell High School at Grinell, Kan., where she was second in her class. She taught rural school for two terms near Grinell before being employed by the county welfare department in Gove, Kan.
On May 10, 1946, Edna married Robert Donze at St. Francis, Kan. They farmed four miles south of Enders, Neb., before moving to a farm just north of Hamlet, Neb., before purchasing another farm north of Hamlet in 1964. They sold the farm in 1968 and moved to Trenton, Neb., where she was employed by Social Services. She then worked with the handicapped in McCook until retiring in 1976.
Edna and Robert spent many weekends fishing and Robert said she always seemed to catch the biggest fish. After retiring she returned to school where she received her ministerial degree.
Edna was an accomplished sewer and was active in the quilting club and the Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and canning food.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1991, an infant son, Duane Edward Donze, her brothers, Harold and Don Moss and sisters, Ruth Sidles and Bertha Bartlett.
She is survived by one son, William D. Donze and wife, Kathy of McCook, Neb.; two granddaughters, Tracey Donze and Teresa Donze of Lincoln, Neb., one sister, Evelyn Bigbee of Oakley, Kan., nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday April 16, 2007, at the United Methodist Church in Trenton, Neb., with Rev. Richard Melano officiating, Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton from 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
