BEAVER CITY -- Marcile M. Woodruff, 85, died Friday (April 13, 2007), at Harlan County Hospital in Alma.
She was born June 24, 1921, at Long Island, Kan., to Joseph and Lela (Gebhard) Young.
She grew up in Long Island and attended Freedom District No. 92. She graduated from Long Island Kansas High School with the class of 1937 and attended Fort Hays State College at Hays, Kan.
She taught grade school at Phillipsburg, Kan., for six years, at Colby, Kan., for five years and at Beaver City for 21?2 years.
On June 15, 1952, she married Donald Woodruff at Long Island. They farmed in Long Island and southeast of Beaver City for many years. She also was a Watkins Dealer for a number of years.
She moved to Alma in 2000 and resided there until 2003 when she returned to Beaver City.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Beaver City and belonged to the United Methodist Women at Beaver City. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 28 of Beaver City and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary at Phillipsburg. She was active with the Furnas County Genealogical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, LaVada.
Survivors include her husband, Don of Beaver City; and a brother, Robert and wife, Harriett Young of Long Island.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Beaver City with the Revs. Robert Berlie and Keith Theobald officiating. Burial will follow at the Long Island Kansas Cemetery.
Visitation and viewing will be Monday, 1-8 p.m., and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and will continue Wednesday at the church, prior to the services.
