SUTHERLAND -- Robert Alfred Hansen, 84, died Monday (April 9, 2007) at the Sutherland Care Center.

He was born Sept. 16, 1922, in a sod house near Quick, to Alfred and Sophia Fritsche Hansen. He grew up in the Quick area and later farmed on a farm he bought from his uncle. He farmed until 1987, when he moved to North Platte. He worked part-time for Pat Clinch Construction.

On Feb. 14, 1942, he married Evelyn Belle Quick at Oberlin. They made their home on the farm. He joined the U.S. Army on March 6, 1946, and was discharged on April 12, 1947, and returned to the farm. He was of the Methodist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Hansen; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Hansen.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra and husband, Larry Staberg of Lincoln, Debra and husband, Don Kreis of Gothenburg, Jeanette and husband, Steve Graff of Lincoln and Gina and husband, Steve Lee of Sutherland; three sons, Derrell and wife, Jane Hansen of Katy, Texas, Donald and wife, Connie Hansen of Hershey and Billy Hansen of McCook; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore in North Platte with the Rev. Dale Heimer of the First Christian Church in Maywood officiating. Burial will be at the Garden Prairie Cemetery at Quick with military honors.

Visitation is Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 7-8 p.m. on Friday all at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Garden Prairie Cemetery Fund.
