ATWOOD?-- Robert A. Creighton, 73, died Thursday (April 5, 2007) at his home in Atwood.
He was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Alexander E. Creighton and Lila (Atkinson) Creighton. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas.
He married to Barbara Lee Wilson of Wilmington, Del. She preceded him in death in 2002. He was an attorney and practiced law with the firm Brown, Creighton and Peckham in Atwood, retiring in August of 2005.
He served in several capacities including county attorney, mayor and city council. He began the Lake Atwood Ten Mile Race in 1972.
He was chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents, was appointed to the Kansas Hospital Closure Commission, Kansas Commission of Judicial Qualifications, Board of Goveners of the KU Law School and to the Kansas University Hall Center for the Humanities Advisory Board.
Survivors include his second wife, Lavina of Atwood; two sons, Alec and wife, Christie of Fort Morgan, Colo., and John and wife, Joni of Longmont, Colo.; brother, Thomas E. Creighton of Denver, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. A private family interment will be in the Atwood Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Williams Funeral Home in Atwood.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Atwood Second Century Fund and Crystal Springs Foundation in Flagler, Colo.
