BELLEVILLE, Kan. -- George Edward Sis, 89, died Thursday (March 15, 2007) at Belleville Health Care Center.
He was born Jan. 29, 1918, to Frank and Edvie (Shimanek) Sis. He attended Munden High School for two years and then attended Belleville, High School, graduating in 1935.
He married Frances Rose Scramek. They farmed for five years near Munden, Kan., before moving to Belleville. He started selling hybrid seed corn in 1939, and ran Sis Seed and Fertlizer for 40 years.
He was a member of the Kansas Seed Dealers Association and Nebraska, Oklahoma and Western Seedsman Association. He was also president of the Chamber of Commerce and initiated the Republic County Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Francis; and sister, Alice Havel.
Survivors include his children, Ilene Mae Milner and husband, Jack of Scandia, Kan., Sammie Joyce Lahodny and husband, Roger of Belleville, Robert George Sis and wife, Nancy of Elkhorn, Frankie Lee and wife, Linda of Belleville, and Rebecca Sue Leon and husband, Kelly of Kearney; sister, Lucille Splichal of Munden, Kan.; brother, Dr. Raymond Sis and wife, Janice of Bryan, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and cousins that reside near McCook.
Funeral services were March 19, 2007, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Belleville, with the Rev. Ralph Aschenbrenner officiating. Burial was in St. George Cemetery in rural Munden, Kan.
Memorials may be given to the Knights of Columbus or NCK Health Care Foundation.
