The McCook Bison girls tennis team opened Thursday's home dual against North Platte with a sweep of all three doubles matches en route to a 9-0 victory.

"The girls took the court with a lot of focus and determination," said McCook tennis coach Matt Wiemers.

"Amy Lester and Melissa Lyster (No. 1 doubles) played a strong match and continued to dominate at the net. They both have solid net play and do a nice job of finishing off points."

In singles, the Bison girls swept all six matches.

"It is extremely hard to point to one match over another, as all six girls play very well," Wiemers said.

"Hannah Putz came back from an 0-3 start and went on a 8-2 run to finish her match. Hannah really did a nice job of recovering from a tough start. Her opponent was very quick and made her earn the win.

"Melissa played a very good match and did a great job of keeping her errors low. She covers the court well and does a nice job approaching the net. Melissa has really hit her ground strokes well this week and also hit her first serve consistently.

"Alli Lester is also playing well and hitting her ground strokes with a lot of confidence. Mix her ground strokes with a strong first serve and Alli is more than capable of beating her opponents.

"She has done a great job of stepping up to the challenges she has been faced with and over coming those challenges.

"The match of the day came at #1 singles. Hanah Swanhorst pulled out a closely contested 9-7 win. The match went back and forth with neither player up by more than a game. Hanah was down 7-8 and held her serve and then got a break to go up 8-7.

"She then served out the match for the win. It was a fun match to watch as both players were equally talented. After losing to Lexington 9-7 last Tuesday, it was nice to see Hanah come back to pick up a win."

Wiemers said the McCook junior varsity continued to play well winning 10 of the 14 matches played.

"It was great to get everybody a match and the girls made the most of their opportunity," Wiemers said. "This was the first match for quite a few of the girls and they did a good job of over coming some jitters.

"Coach (Tara) Michaelis has done a great job with the girls, as they are developing each day they take the court.

"We are looking forward to watching them improve their game and continue to push one another."

The Bison will host a 4 p.m. dual Tuesday against Hastings at the Bison/Elks Courts.
