ARAPAHOE -- James Thomas Utterback, 61, of Arapahoe died Sunday (March 18, 2007) at his home.

He was born Jan. 2, 1946, at Arapahoe to James T. and Gladys L. (Reitz) Utterback. He attended school in Arapahoe and graduated with the class of 1965, from Arapahoe High School.

He then attended the University of Nebraska at Curtis College of Technical Agriculture for two years.

He served in the Army from April of 1968, until February of 1970. After his service time he married Marty Hoover and they made their home in Arapahoe. He worked with his father on the farm and did construction for various people.

For several years he worked for Trico Fertilizer plant as a fertilizer blender. He also worked as a truck driver for Paulsen, Inc., of Arapahoe. He later retired due to health problems.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 9343 of Edison.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tracie Utterback; brothers, Gerald and Wayne Utterback; and sister, Elsa Darleen Utterback

Survivors include his wife, Marty Utterback of Arapahoe; sons, Phillip Kevin Fuchs of Oxford and Thomas Utterback of Arapahoe; daughters, Shawna and husband, Kevin Sheets of New Castle, Okla., Ashley and husband, Tony Janway of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dawn and husband, James Odell of Edison, Jamie Utterback of Arapahoe, and Rusti and husband, Daryl Johannsen of Arapahoe; brother, Paul Utterback of Arapahoe; sisters, Roberta and husband, Glenn Hinton of Arapahoe, Irma and husband, Lloyd Pfeiffer of Arapahoe and Sara Mae and husband, Charles Walker of Haves Center; 24 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery with military rites provided by American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Thursday.
