HERNDON -- Monica Solko, 81, died Wednesday (March 14, 2007) at Decatur County Hospital.
She was born May 3, 1925, to Peter and Rosina (Jesch) Pochop in Rawlins County. She grew up and attended school in Rawlins County.
She lived in Atwood until she married Clarence Solko on Aug. 25, 1947, in Atwood. They moved to a farm 31/2 miles west of Herndon in Herndon Township. She worked as a homemaker.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers Altar Society and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; parents, Peter and Rosina Pochop; brothers, Peter, Simon and Paul Pochop; and sisters, Ann Solko, Lillian, Rose Marie and Theresa Pochop.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald and wife, Diana Solko of Oberlin, Thomas Solko of Herndon and Tim Solko of Herndon; daughters, Judy Solko of Larned, Kan., Pat and husband, Doug Marrs, of Hays, Kan., and Carol and husband, Kenton Olliff of Hays, Kan.; brother, John Pochop of Colton, Calif.; brother-in-law, Bill Solko of Inman, Kan., sisters, Rose Ann Bayes of El Sequndo of Calif., and Joan Griggs of Colby; sister-in-law, Maureen Pochop of Sacramento, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at St. Mary's Church in Herndon, with the Rev. Galen?Long officiating. Interment will be in St.Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 5 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church in Herndon.
Memorials may be given to the Monica Solko Memorial Fund.
