CENTERVILLE, Iowa -- Cecil Carlson, 91, died Tuesday (March 6, 2007) at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.
He was born Dec. 31, 1915, the son of Axel and Agnes (Samuelson) Carlson in McLean. He grew up in McCook.
He married Ruby Bruse on June 23, 1942, in Omaha. She preceded him in death. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corp., and served in World War II. He attended college at the University of Nebraska and the University of Oklahoma where he received his Masters in Library Science and Masters of Education and later taught Psychology and Sociology for Indian Hills Community College and school in McCook.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; one sister, Verlyn Carlson; and one grandchild.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth and husband, Joseph Lacz of Lenexa, Kan., and Roxanne and husband, Robert Dina of Berkeley, Ill.; one son, Bruse Carlson of Seymour, Iowa; two brothers, Lester Carlson of Minneapolis, Minn., and William Carlson of Otto, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was Friday, 11 a.m., at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Centerville with the Rev. Kathy Franzeberg officiating. Burial will be in McCook at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th Street, Centerville, IA 52544.
