ATWOOD -- Virginia S. (Schandler) Chvatal, 80, died Tuesday (March 6, 2007) at Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colo.
She was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Leoville, Kan., to John S. and Mary A. (Austerman) Schandler. The family moved to Atwood in 1942, to operate Schandler Funeral Home and furniture store. During high school she assisted her parents with the business. She graduated from Atwood High School in 1944. She then attended Barnes Business College in Denver?studying accounting and bookkeeping.
She married LaVern M. Chvatal on May 18, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Atwood. They operated the Texaco distributorship on Hwy 36 for more than 26 years. She was the bookkeeper, maintained company records and greeted customers.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Christian Mothers Altar Society and the American Legion Auxilliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Marlin and Arnold; and son, John.
Survivors include her husband, LaVern, sons, Larry and wife, Carla of San Diego, Calif., and Greg and wife, Cheryl of Fort Collins, Colo.; and two granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood, with the Rev. Galen Long officiating. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Atwood.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., with vigil and rosary services at 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Atwood.
Memorials may be given in her name to Mount Calvary Cemetery.
